Research Training Group "Element Speziation"

The interdisciplinary Research Training Group (Graduiertenkolleg, abbreviated as GRK) on “Trace analysis of elemental species: Development of methods and applications“ is a Graduate School organised by research groups from chemistry, physics, geosciences, atmospheric sciences, biology, and medicine of the University of Mainz and the Max-Planck-Institute for Chemistry in Mainz. At the Institute of Geosciences especially the Environmental Mineralogy group is involved in this project. The GRK is sponsored since Oktober 2002 by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the State of Rheinland-Pfalz.

Elemental speciation is an active and highly interdisciplinary research topic in Analytical Chemistry. For example, elemental speciation, i.e. the analysis of the distribution of an element among defined chemical species, becomes necessary when the biological or biogeochemical cycles of essential or toxic elements have to be understood.

The Research Training Group (Graduiertenkolleg) “Trace analysis of elemental species: Development of methods and applications” is an university training programme organised by 10 research groups from chemistry, physics, geosciences, atmospheric sciences, biology and medicine of the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz and the Max-Planck-Institute for Chemistry in Mainz.
