Research groups at the Institute of Geosciences

Fourteen research groups work at the Institute for Geosciences (see left) and are currently consolidating themselves into a few overarching themes.

These are: 

• continental geodynamics, involving aspects of metamorphic geology, tectonophysics, geophysics, petrology, volcanology, and isotope geology
• terrestrial palaeoclimate, involving groups looking at climate and sediments, palaeontology, speleothem research and isotope geology.
• Chemistry and physics of near-surface layers and the environment
• Gemstone and geomaterials research.
