The first part of the fieldtrip involves visiting areas of classic metamorphic and structural geology in Scotland. You will be shown many aspects of the regional geology and will be expected to complete short tasks including identifying minerals and mineral assemblages, detailed field sketches and small-scale (outcrop) mapping.
Towards the end of the trip you will be divided into pairs (you can choose who you work with) to map in detail 2 square km of geology in the classic area of NW Scotland. Although we will be around to make sure you are OK, most of this work will be done independently. The assessment for the course will be based on both the short tasks and mapping.
