Are you wondering if geosciences is the right program of study for you?
Would you like to get a first taste of campus life and try out university with no obligation?
Or do you simply want to know what geosciences are?
Then our teaser study program is just what you need. Five days of trial studying with real lectures, practice classes, including a complete field trip day to the Eifel.

(Middle to upper high school level) planned for summer 2027
(Upper secondary level) – currently on hold
together with the Green School and the Institute of Physics
(Upper secondary level) – currently on hold
We offer expert-led field trips for school classes on the following topics/areas:
The field trip introduces participants to the evidence of volcanic activity in the area of Laacher See, Eastern Eifel. The focus of the field trip is on experiencing and recognizing the different eruption forms and gaining a basic understanding of the corresponding eruption processes.
Ideal for students from middle to upper high school level
Duration:
One-day field trip (also possible as a two-day field trip)
Location:
usually within walking distance around Laacher See
Thematic Focus:
endogenous processes
volcanic rocks
explosive volcanism
eruption mechanisms
The field trip leads to the geopark of the Mainz-Weisenau quarry. This quarry is a window into Earth’s history: here, students can explore the development of the Upper Rhine Graben and the geological evolution of the last 31 million years, from a tropical sea to the sands of the ancient Rhine.
Ideal for students from 7th grade onwards
Duration:
Half-day field trip
Location: Geolehrpfad Mainz Weisenau
Thematic Focus:
exogenous processes
Regional geology/regional paleoenvironment
biogenic carbonate rocks/fossil formation
importance of carbonates for long-term climate stability
Content to follow…
Ideal for students from 7th grade onwards
Duration:
Half-day field trip
Location: Mainz Mombach
Thematic Focus:
The field trip leads to the Lahn-Dill Syncline, approximately 60 km away. There, we will take a guided tour of the largest and deepest limestone quarry in Rhineland-Palatinate. Afterwards, we will visit the Lahn Marble Museum, including the quarry, in Villmar an der Lahn. The facade cladding for the foyer of the Empire State Building in New York, as well as for the Kremlin in Moscow, was quarried here.
Ideal for middle and upper high school level
Duration:
Full-day field trip
Location: Lahn-Dill Syncline
Thematic Focus:
exogenous and endogenous processes
Regional geology
carbonate rocks
We are happy to come to your school and organize a school lesson, a double lesson, or even a project day/week on geoscientific topics – naturally with illustrative experiments.
